Installing forum
So now I'm trying to add the forum to the site. I've got the download and downloaded it in the public_html directory.
I noticed that my .htaccess was in the .txt format. Will changing the name to .htaccess be enough to change it? How do I change it? Is that all I need to do to have it installed? (eg. downloading it and changing the file type) I also changed the variable from 0 to 1 in the coding for the /inc/config_forums.php file. Sorry to be such a bother everyone. |

Yes, you need to change the .htaccess file's format, the name should be .htaccess rather than htaccess.txt.

I've done that, it's still showing up as a txt/x-generic is that a problem?

Yes, if it is still in .txt format you will have a problem, you need to change it to .htaccess format.

I tried renaming it, and the name says just .htaccess, but the side bar says text/x-generic
in the type collumn. Any how, now I'm having a different problem besides it not showing up. I get this error in forum/install.php or just /install.php at the end of my site url. Warning: require(../inc/config.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/sezhiota/public_html/classes/class_initializer.php on line 94 Warning: require(../inc/config.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/sezhiota/public_html/classes/class_initializer.php on line 94 Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required '../inc/config.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/sezhiota/public_html/classes/class_initializer.php on line 94 I've installed it according to This and [url=http://docs.mybb.com/Installing.html] I think you should also know that I've made a second database for the forums, not sure if that's a problem. |

Well you have to rename it to .htaccess, the format cannot be .txt otherwise it wont be recognized by the script. Its MyBB's own fault that their .htaccess file is in .txt format, but for this reason you have to change it manually. Kinda hard for newbies if you ask me.

If this is still a problem for you I just came across the same issue when upgrading our site to v1.3.3. It seems like the txt file automatically converts itself in v1.3.2 but in the newest version of Mysidia this is not the case.
What you do is; Make a copy of the mysidia .htaccess file and open it. Open your forum htaccess.txt file and copy all of the information within it. Paste all of the information into the copy of Mysidia's .htaccess file and hit save. --MAKE SURE THAT IT IS THE COPY-- After copying the information just click 'save', if you click 'save-as' it will continue to save it as a .txt file. When you're finished with that, you have your new forum .htaccess file, just place it into your forum files where the .htaccess is supposed to be located. Hope this helps. Nieth |
