Index page missing
I followed the guide that said to make a public_html folder and uploaded all of the necessary files into it. But my site is saying that the index page is missing, even though the index page is in the templates folder.

Are you talking about the index.php file? That should be in your public_html folder (the root folder) not in your templates folder. If you mean index.htm file, that shouldn't affect whether your site can access the index page. I was able to remove index.htm from my templates folder and the site was fine.
Check if you have an index.php page Also if you're using an online host for your site and all the files are as they should be then it might be an issue with your host. I have a script hosted on GoDaddy and I had so much trouble setting it up. Everything was a fresh install and yet it couldn't find the index page and just said it didn't exist. I ended up having to wait a few days, change the PHP version my site used multiple times, reset all the files, reinstall the script... and it finally worked. Still not entirely sure why it didn't work the first few times

The error is: The directory / does not contain an index file. You have to create a page called index.html, index.htm or index.php (lower case). Warning: if you have just activated your site you might have to wait up to 24 hours before it is visible. |

Hmm, I'm not too sure then. You could try copying the index.htm file over to public_html just to try that out but I don't know if that would work. Probably not, but might be worth a shot anyway! I checked my FTP client for GoDaddy and in the public_html I have a file called home.html that was created by GoDaddy. So Altervista might require a similar file, just called index.
I've never heard of Altervista so I have no experience with them or what the issue might be. A last ditch effort you could try is to contact HOF and have them install the script on the hosting service Mysidia Host. Unless you already have bought a domain name, because Mysidia Host will put .mysidiahost.com after your site name. Sorry I couldn't be more help!
