A php question about changing the "level up" section

Hi everyone! I've just installed the script and have begun to tinker with it. I'm very familiar with CSS and HTML, but I haven't written my own PHP yet. I know the basics, just don't have much experience.

I'm hoping someone can give me some tips on making a change.

Instead of having visitors click on the pet to "level it up", I'd rather have the owner of the pet click on a button to "train" it. The pet would start with no training (0), and then with each click would gain training till it reached a certain number.

I've been reading php tutorials and I cannot wrap my brain around how to make this change.

If anyone's willing to help me out please let me know! I'm not expecting anyone to write the script for me, that would be asking a lot, just hoping I can get pointed in the right direction since there seems to be a lot of people here that are experienced in php.

Thanks!

umm I will be posting PHP tutorials such as if...else, switch...case, while/for loop, functions and arrays after Mys v1.2.0 is completed. Those tutorials will be posted most likely in early or mid-march, check them out then.

Regarding your problem, I do believe that a levelup system overhaul is needed. I am actually planning an experience system for my Pokemansion adoptables site in future, not sure if this is somewhat similar? o_o

Might be similar, I don't know much about pokeman though.

I know what if and else statements, arrays, etc. are. I've been reading online tutorials for a couple days and I get the basic idea of what everything does...I just can't seem to incoorprate what I know into a working script edit.

I have book knowledge, but no experience putting it to use :(

It seems like this should be an easy change but my brain does not agree! lol

Just wanted to update that I was able to make this work after some googling and plenty of cursing. ;-)

Thanks for the replies!

You are very welcome, glad to see you have begun actively coding your site.

This gives me a reason to learn php and I've come to the conclusion that if it's ever going to be the way I want it, I need to do it myself. I had a hard time starting, but once I got in there and tinkered with things I eventually made progress.

It'll probably take me forever to finish, but some day I'll have it done, lol

Well yeah, you will get there someday. It wont hurt to ask questions here though, have fun coding.
